Aguascalientes seeks to collaborate in the production of “Olinia,” Mexico’s first electric car.
As part of the federal economic development strategy, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo presented the so-called “Plan México,” which aims to promote development centers tailored to the needs of each region.
This project includes “Olinia,” the first manufacturer of mini electric vehicles developed in Mexico.
In light of this announcement, Aguascalientes will seek to collaborate on the project by incorporating state companies into the production chains, according to Esaú Garza de Vega, the state’s Secretary of Economic Development, Science, and Technology (SEDECyT).
“Well, not to mention the production of the vehicle itself, but the parts, components, and services—that’s where we want to participate. Yes, we currently have a program called ‘Supplier Development for the Automotive Industry,’ in which we are promoting small and medium-sized industries so they can join the automotive industry’s value chains. With this mapping we’ve achieved, this is precisely what we want to propose to the federal government so it can be taken into account when supplying component parts for Olinia.”
He mentioned that a portfolio of potential Aguascalientes suppliers is being prepared, primarily small and medium-sized businesses that could join Olinia’s production.
“The thing is that requirements can vary, so it will depend somewhat on the requirements, it’s like the chicken and the egg. We believe we can provide many of the components that are needed or needed, but nevertheless, we need to understand the requirements, the volumes, the logistics that will be involved. In other words, it’s a whole process that we are working on right now and we hope to soon be able to formally announce which companies have been able to participate in this project.”
