With the goal of strengthening wine producers in the state, the Government of the State of Aguascalientes, through the Secretariat of Economic Development, Science, and Technology (Sedecyt), signed a collaboration agreement with the Mexican Wine Council, entitled “Boosting the Wine Economy of Aguascalientes.”

This agreement includes five strategic pillars: the development of the First International Grape and Wine Congress; national and international marketing outreach; collaboration for the execution of strategic projects; the promotion of vineyards, wineries, wine tourism products and services; and the development of actions to apply benefits to associated producers who register with the Mexican Wine Council.

Esaú Garza de Vega, head of Sedecyt, explained that Aguascalientes will host the First International Grape and Wine Congress on April 9 and 10, 2026, with the participation of national and international producers. The event will be held at the Tres Centurias Railway Complex and will be open to the general public. Visitors will be able to enjoy tastings, exhibitions, workshops, and gastronomy, among many other attractions.

“Governor Tere Jiménez has been very specific about the need to support all sectors and build alliances that help us boost the competitiveness of local producers. We will continue working to bring Aguascalientes wine to the entire country and the world,” Garza de Vega emphasized.

For his part, Salomón Abedrop López, president of the Mexican Wine Council, emphasized that the signing of this agreement and the holding of the congress are a recognition of the growth and good work achieved by Aguascalientes wineries, and also position the state as a benchmark for promoting the industry, which is the second largest employer in the agricultural sector nationwide with 500,000 formal jobs.

Finally, Gustavo Granados Corzo, council member of the Municipality of Aguascalientes, announced the “Zero License” initiative, which will waive taxes on the sale of wines affiliated with the Made in Aguascalientes label in establishments located in the capital.

Also present at the event were Mauricio González López, Secretary of Tourism for the State; Isidoro Armendáriz García, Secretary of Rural and Agribusiness Development; Héctor Alejandro Vázquez Zúñiga, General Director of the Aguascalientes Cultural Institute; Alberto Curis García, Secretary of the Mexican Wine Council; Elizabeth Rojas, General Director of the Mexican Wine Council; Ricardo Álvarez, President of the Aguascalientes Winegrowers Council; and Patricio Quesada, President of the Aguascalientes Wine Council.
