California couple on vacation in Mexico reportedly killed by gas leak

A California couple, Mireya Araceli León and Julián Leonel Casares, tragically lost their lives while on vacation in Mexico due to a carbon monoxide poisoning incident caused by a gas leak at the home where they were staying. The young couple, both 21 years old, had traveled with family members to Aguascalientes, central Mexico, with plans to visit Puerto Vallarta afterwards.

According to reports, on July 9th, family members detected a strong smell of gas in the morning. Mireya’s mother discovered the couple dead in their room where they were sleeping. Investigations revealed that a boiler in the laundry room near their room was likely the source of the gas leak.

The couple had dated at Righetti High School and were reportedly engaged, with friends and family sharing their condolences on social media. The father of Julián Casares described them as “just starting out” on their journey together.
