Antonio Martínez Romo Said Aguascalientes Maintains Reinforced Surveillance Along Its Border with Zacatecas and Does Not Rule Out Similar Incidents
The SSPE Seeks to Acquire Equipment to Detect Explosives and Urged the Public to Report Suspicious Vehicles or Objects on Highways
Antonio Martínez Romo, Secretary of Public Security of the State, said authorities remain attentive to the events that occurred in Ojocaliente, Zacatecas. As a result, reinforcement of the border and the deployment of additional security personnel continue. He indicated that authorities are also prepared to provide support to Zacatecas if requested and did not rule out the possibility that situations of this type could occur in Aguascalientes.
Regarding the use of explosives, Martínez Romo explained that legislation itself establishes that their regulation falls under the federal jurisdiction and noted that these are situations related to serious crimes.
“There are those who speak of terrorism and, well, we have to remain attentive, since nothing is ruled out in Aguascalientes. Even the police stations themselves have been instructed to remain fully alert in case a stranger approaches,” he said.
The Secretary of Public Security said that situations of this type cannot be ruled out and that preventive protocols are being strengthened to prevent organized crime groups from replicating in Aguascalientes acts such as those recorded in the neighboring state of Zacatecas.
Martínez Romo stressed that these events have raised the alert level in Aguascalientes, which is why authorities remain vigilant to prevent criminal groups from the neighboring state from entering state territory.
He also indicated that the state remains on maximum alert and that preventive surveillance protocols will be strengthened on highways along the border, in addition to increasing vehicle inspections.
The official reported that authorities are also seeking to obtain additional equipment that would allow them to detect explosives, in response to the incidents that have occurred in Zacatecas.
Likewise, he urged citizens to remain alert and avoid stopping near vehicles that are left alone or found in suspicious circumstances, as they could be part of a trap or be related to situations similar to those already reported.
“We ask people to be very careful when traveling on the highways and to avoid situations that could involve them. It is better to immediately notify the police, and we will take care of it,” he said.
Finally, Martínez Romo said it could not be confirmed that one of the people who, according to the Zacatecas government, was originally from Aguascalientes was actually from the state; however, he indicated that the person may have previously remained in the state.
