The city of Aguascalientes has solidified its position as the national benchmark for quality of life, ranking as the best city in Mexico according to the prestigious Happy City Index 2026.
This international study, developed by the Institute for Quality of Life, meticulously evaluated more than 3,400 cities worldwide, of which only 251 met the rigorous standards to be included in the final ranking. Within Mexico, only two cities secured a place on this definitive list, with Aguascalientes achieving the highest score and the leading position nationwide due to the optimal conditions it offers its residents.
The privileged position achieved by the capital of Aguascalientes is the result of an exhaustive methodological analysis process that spanned five months. During this period, international specialists compiled and verified hard data using 64 specific indicators that measured strategic areas such as urban infrastructure, mobility, public safety, governance, environmental sustainability, economic dynamism, and general access to quality public services—essential factors that directly impact the daily well-being of the population.
The head of the Secretariat of Economic Development, Science and Technology, Esaú Garza de Vega, stated that this achievement confirms that the state maintains a highly favorable environment for productive investment and sustained economic growth. The state official emphasized that the recognition reflects ongoing work focused on strengthening local services and infrastructure, which enhances the state’s attractiveness in global markets.
“The conditions of stability, competitiveness, and urban development that distinguish Aguascalientes are factors that attract new productive projects, foster job creation, and allow us to retain highly qualified talent,” Secretary Garza de Vega stated, reflecting on the impact of the evaluation. The head of the agency also pointed out that these strengths position the region as a priority destination for national and international companies seeking operational certainty, a skilled workforce, and a balanced social fabric. With this international recognition, Aguascalientes reaffirms its leadership as a competitive, modern, and forward-thinking city.
