Currently, there are five beer brands produced by women in Aguascalientes. Some brewers have even entered the national market, highlighted Brenda Beatriz Guevara, a local producer of San Marqueña beer.
Although it is a male-dominated industry, women have forged ahead with a variety of offerings, such as craft beer, root beer, and other types of beer, taking advantage of traditional techniques, flavors, and styles characteristic of the region and Mexico.
“There are women brewers here in Aguascalientes. We make very good, quality beer, and we are slowly trying to break into the beer world, returning to the history of beer that was brewed by women. We can also add that special touch, and although it’s difficult, we can make a good product,” she stated.
Eduardo Guzmán Cano, president of the Aguascalientes Brewers Association, celebrated the growth the industry has experienced in recent years, in part due to the important role played by women producers.
“The brewing industry has grown in recent years, and we have a significant commitment to women’s participation. It has been a key factor within the beer industry; there is a cliché that it is a men’s issue, but women have historically been the ones who started making beer,” he noted.
On the weekend of October 4th and 5th, San Marcos Island will host the “Aguas Beer Fest,” an event that will feature more than 35 beer exhibitors who will offer their products to attendees. Additionally, there will be entertainment and a space for children.
