Aguascalientes hosts the Festival de Calaveras every year to honor el Día de los Muertos. While some of the events cater more to tourists, there are more traditional moments, like museum exhibitions and an honorary parade.
In a festive atmosphere, the 2023 Calaveras Cultural Festival “Viva la Catrina” was presented, which will reach all the municipalities in the state of Aguascalientes so that families can enjoy the culture, gastronomy, and more than 500 activities included in the program of this great event that will take place from October 28 to November 5.
Gloria Romo Cuesta, Secretary of Tourism of the state (Sectur), highlighted that this year an economic benefit of 344 million pesos and the visit of 340 thousand people are expected, which represents an increase of 15 percent compared to the previous year.
“This is the 29th edition of the festival, recognized as one of the best tourist products in the country; I thank the entire work team that makes this great event a reality,” said Romo Cuesta.
He explained that 90 percent of the activities will be free for the entire public and that this year the festival returns to San Marcos Island, which will open its doors from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. so that Families can enjoy the exhibition of living altars, the Bread Pavilion and the Children’s Pavilion, which will offer workshops for the little ones, among many other attractions.
She mentioned that the Made in Aguascalientes and Agroalimentario pavilions will also be installed, where local companies participate and will offer their products and services. The State DIF will also carry out activities for older adults, such as theater, Zumba, and board games.
She highlighted that one of the biggest attractions of this festivity is the traditional Skull Parade, which will take place on November 2 at exactly 8:00 p.m. through the main streets of the city center.
To close with a flourish, on November 5 there will be a Napoleon concert in Plaza Patria at 7:00 p.m., with free entry for everyone.
Romo Cuesta expressed that there will also be a series of contests, in addition to sporting events such as the traditional Aguascalientes Marathon on October 29; as well as taekwondo, swimming, and baseball tournaments, among others.
Likewise, she pointed out that horror theater tours will be held at Ficotrece; while in the Rodolfo Landeros Park, open-air cinema screenings will be offered and a gastronomic and craft corridor will be installed.
On the other hand, the head of Sectur highlighted that on October 28 at 8:00 p.m. Pablo Alborán will perform at the Monumental Bullring; That same day at 7:00 p.m., a concert by the group Intocable will be held at the Arena San Marcos.
