Peso Pluma’s performance at Golden One Center was the only place to be for many Latinos on the evening of Sunday, July 9th.

The love for the Mexican music star runs deep, and the arena was packed with Sacramentans of all ages waiting to witness the Doble P Tour. The tour highlights his third studio album “Génesis,” which was released last month with the hit song “Lady Gaga.”

Peso Pluma, 24, is currently at the forefront of the Mexican music scene, with 14 songs on the Billboard Hot 100. Riding high off those strings of hits, he played to a crowd of more than 15,000. His set list included fan favorites “Ella Baila Sola” and “PRC.”

Around 6 p.m., crowds began to line up around Golden One Center. Many were dressed for the occasion wearing boots, Tejanas (cowboy hats), and Peso Pluma fan attire.

Others paid homage to the artist with Spider-Man apparel or accessories. Spiders are the symbol of “Génesis,” and he is known for wearing a chain of the superhero. The spider motif was present in the background of Sunday’s performance.

His fans were wide-ranging in age, with an abundance of families and children. During Peso Pluma’s performance, some children sat on their parent’s shoulders and others sang enthusiastically while copying the artist’s iconic dance.

Cecilia Ruiz attended the show with her husband and three children, who ranged from teenagers to young adults. Her youngest son carried a Spider-Man mask, and her daughter had a silver necklace of the superhero.

As she waited in line, Ruiz was seen with the Nicaraguan flag draped around her shoulders. She said the whole family loves Peso Pluma’s music and appreciates his welcoming of the entire Latino community.

“Peso Pluma is for all Latinos,” said Ruiz. “He represents all of them.”

Nearby, 17-year-old Jose Franco was preparing to see Peso Pluma for the second time. He saw the artist two months earlier in Fresno alongside his parents.

Franco said his parents discovered the Mexican artist about a year ago, and now are listening to his music anytime they drive.

“He’s bringing a whole new meaning to Mexican music,” Franco said.

On Sunday, Franco made the drive from the Bay Area with his girlfriend Natalia Garcia. The couple both have family roots in Mexico and expressed pride that Peso Pluma is becoming increasingly popular in the U.S.

“He’s iconic now,” Garcia said. “Now, you can go to the barbershop and there are people asking for the Peso Pluma haircut.”
