Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Earlier this month, Aid to Families of Children With Cancer (AFCC), an organization that supports 18 families who have a child diagnosed with cancer in the Puerto Vallarta region, collected donations to give these families a memorable Christmas.

The NPO’s innovative “Decorate our Christmas Tree” campaign was a success, raising enough money to make this Christmas special for the children and their families.

A million “thank yous” to everyone who donated toys, balls, clothes, and funds for despensas and treatments. The children and their families went to the Grand Venetian on Sunday, December 20 to pick up their presents and despensas, a few at a time. Everyone was kept masked and safe.

Linette, who is 3 years old, pulled down her mask long enough for Aurora to capture her beautiful smile. She’ll be in the hospital in Guadalajara over Christmas, so she got her presents early.

One donor invited Santa to join the kids to hand out the presents. A couple donated a gift to each child, a church ladies group made hand-sewn bedspreads for each child, and a lady sent handmade dolls from Canada. Another generous donor donated soccer balls for all the boys.

Last weekend Pam Thompson’s office at Hospital Joya Marina was packed with food donations, which were added to the despensas given at the party. A huge thank you to all who dropped off food items to Pam – you filled her office!

The children hand-painted t-shirts to thank some of the donors for whom they had names. And Carlos was surprised with a Christmas tree of his very own. Before his latest trip to Guadalajara, he told his father that all he really wanted for Christmas was a decorated tree. One of our donors gave us the tree and some decorations, so Carlos got to decorate it and take it home. He was thrilled!

The families will return in a couple of weeks to get more food despensas, including meat, eggs, and fresh vegetables before Three Kings Day. Thank you to everyone who has made this possible as the children have improved diets now, helping with their health.
